Summary
Council recommended a contract to accept a $200,000 federal Safe Streets grant with Carnegie Mellon University contributing $200,000 in‑kind for a citywide Safe Streets and Roads for All project; committee noted CMU is providing the 50% match and there is no hard expenditure deadline.
The mobility and infrastructure committee recommended approval of a resolution authorizing the mayor and the department to enter into a contract with Carnegie Mellon University not to exceed $200,000 over three years, with CMU contributing an additional $200,000 in‑kind services, for a total project value of $400,000 under the Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
Acting director Jeff Skeligan said the city is the award recipient and CMU provides the 50% match and in‑kind support. Skeligan told council the project will be citywide; specifics of project activities will be developed through kickoff meetings and a consultant funded by the award.
Council asked whether the grant funds have a required expenditure period; the director said there is not a preset deadline for spending the award. The committee returned an affirmative recommendation.
