Coweta County names new jail annex for former Sheriff Michael S. Yeager

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6 approved a proclamation naming the county jail annex C pod the "Michael S. Yeager Wing" in honor of former Sheriff Michael S. Yeager.
Chair (speaker S1) read Yeager’s career highlights in a formal proclamation — citing his service with the Newnan Police Department in 1980, work with the Georgia Department of Corrections, his election as sheriff in 1992, and later confirmation as a U.S. marshal for the Northern District of Georgia — and asked the board to adopt the resolution. The board voted to approve the naming by voice vote.
Yeager (speaker S8) addressed the commissioners and attendees, calling his law-enforcement career "something that meant a lot" and reflecting on his years serving the community. "Leadership is not about being the best. Leadership is about making everyone else better," Yeager said during his remarks, which included thanks to the men and women of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and to his family.
The proclamation recognizes Yeager’s local leadership roles, including terms with the Georgia Sheriffs Association and other state bodies as read into the record. The board set no separate implementation timeline beyond the proclamation vote; arrangements to place the name on the facility will proceed under county administration.
