Commission approves modest increase to solid‑waste tipping fees effective Jan. 1

Coweta County commissioners voted Nov. 4 to raise solid waste tipping fees at the transfer station and construction & demolition landfill from $55 to $57 per ton effective Jan. 1. Public Works staff said AmWaste — the county's contractor — is allowed under contract to increase its tonnage rate up to the CPI cap (maximum 5%); AmWaste proposed a 4% increase (about $2/ton), and staff proposed matching a similar $2/ton increase to maintain parity.
Staff emphasized that a $20 minimum charge for loads 700 pounds or less will remain, so most resident truckloads will be unaffected and the increase primarily impacts private haulers. Commissioners said the change keeps the operation at breakeven after past losses and covers recent cost pressures.
The board approved the fee increase by unanimous vote. The increase is scheduled to take effect Jan. 1.
