Wyoming County Schools honors staff and students at Celebrate Success ceremony

Superintendent John Henry opened the Wyoming County Schools’ Celebrate Success meeting and said the district had “a lot to celebrate” this year, from employees to students who have achieved academic and extracurricular honors. He listed central‑office leaders and board members and turned the program over to assistant superintendent Kara Hossen Mitchell to begin awards presentations.

Mitchell introduced Kim McBride of Professional Business Products, who read colleagues’ notes and presented a service‑person award. "You're either going to impact them in the positive direction or impact them in the negative direction," McBride said of the daily interactions school staff have with students. The district announced Sandra Morgan, cafeteria manager at Conwell Middle School, as the Wyoming County Service Person of the Year and invited family and coworkers forward for photos.

Brian Dillon, enrichment affairs coordinator and federal programs director, presented career‑and‑technical recognitions, describing the governor’s workforce credential requirements including high attendance and industry credentials. He named several credential recipients and asked principals to help distribute awards to students who could not attend.

Dillon also recognized winners in the county public‑speaking contest, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow state finalists and the Golden Horseshoe social‑studies winners. "That's a very big achievement, being a finalist in the state," he said when introducing the students. Multiple families and school staff were invited to come forward for group photos.

A teacher‑of‑the‑year recipient addressed the board, saying the honor reflected not only personal effort but the support and mentorship of other teachers in the county. "If I'm a good teacher, it's because I had great teachers," the recipient said.

The meeting concluded the Celebrate Success program with applause and a reminder of upcoming summer programs and the board’s June meeting schedule.

The board and administrators emphasized local recognition and the district’s focus on career readiness, mentorship for new administrators and student achievement as core goals.

What’s next: winners and recipients will be photographed and principals will receive award packets for distribution to winners who were not present; the board moves from recognition items into routine business and policy updates during the same meeting.
