Commissioners approve payment on wildfire waste bills; agree to pursue 70/30 split with Carson County

The Hutchinson County Commissioners Court on July 22 approved immediate payment of two invoices from Republic related to clean-up of February–March wildfire debris and discussed an interlocal agreement with neighboring Carson County to split disposal costs 70% to Hutchinson and 30% to Carson.
County staff said Republic’s invoices were past due and that Carson County agreed in principle to the 70/30 allocation based on property counts used to apportion costs. Commissioners authorized payment of the Republic invoices now and directed staff to draft an interlocal agreement for a future agenda that would formalize the cost share.
On concrete left at the wildfire site, staff reported contact from a contracting firm via the TCEQ small business assistance program that may be able to crush and recycle concrete, but the company has prior contracts and may not be immediately available. TCEQ said it would extend permits so the county can store concrete while it seeks contractors.
What happens next: Staff will process payment to Republic, draft an interlocal agreement for formal approval, and continue soliciting contractors to crush the concrete; the court said it will place an interlocal on a future agenda once final numbers are available.
