Student Battle of the Books final held at Westwood Elementary

Westwood Elementary hosted the 2026 Battle of the Books final competition. Librarian Mrs. Weinberger, who said she oversees Westwood as well as Prairie Lips and Dean Street elementary schools, introduced the event format, rules and the four finalist teams: Bunch of Bananas, Scarlet Men, None of Your Beeswax and The Stitches. Each team answered eight questions per round, with title questions worth 10 points and author questions worth 5, and a bonus question offering up to 20 points. Organizers described timing rules (30 seconds to answer with warnings at 15 and 5 seconds), tiebreaker procedures and stealing rules applicable in final rounds.

Contestants answered a sequence of book-identification and quote-recognition questions drawn from a prepared list. Hosts read questions aloud and indicated correct and incorrect responses; several rounds produced ties that were resolved using five tiebreaker questions. The program emphasized sportsmanship and audience etiquette and concluded after the final round and bonus questions. No civic actions, motions, votes, or governmental decisions were taken during the event.
