Police chief: January calls up, 97 in Hyde Park as department readies monthly recaps

Chief Goodrich told Hyde Park’s city council that the police department handled 474 calls across the agency in January and 97 of those occurred in Hyde Park.
“Out of that, the priority … we had 10 accidents between the property damage and one personal injury, and this month we also had an aggravated assault,” Chief Goodrich said, and added the department had handled multiple child-abuse investigations and unattended-death calls.
The chief said January’s departmental total of 474 calls represented an increase from previous years and that roughly 38% of Hyde Park’s monthly calls were priority-type incidents. He also reported 70 traffic stops in Hyde Park in January, with 11 citations and 59 warnings.
Mayor (chair) and council members thanked the chief and asked follow-up questions about alarm responses and interagency assistance. The chief said many intrusion alarms are false alarms tied to hired alarm companies and that officers respond to verify whether a break-in occurred.
The chief also said the department will provide the council with a city-specific snapshot during the next meeting and then follow with monthly recaps to help the council track trends.
The council did not take formal action on the report; the chief’s presentation was given as informational and council members indicated they wanted the monthly recaps to continue.
