The staff presentation included last year’s premium ($3,604) and this year’s quoted premium of $3,824 for the additional million in coverage. A board member moved to purchase the umbrella policy; the motion passed on a voice vote.
The board also approved awarding the middle‑school roofing labor contract to Cornell, described by staff as a certified Tremco installer, at a labor‑only price of $434,480. Staff explained the bid covers replacement of the top roofing layer on specified hatched areas; insulation would only be replaced if wet material is found during work. Staff said the vendor has previously worked in district facilities with minimal disruption and will schedule around testing and activities.
Following the labor award, the board approved purchase of roofing materials from Weatherproofing Technologies through a national cooperative at a total materials price of $417,318.88. Staff described the procurement as a co‑op purchase (competitively bid by the cooperative) and noted the materials contract included a preventive maintenance plan and extended warranty coverage; the maintenance was described as a 15‑year element in the current proposal. Some board members raised concerns about material pricing and discussed the option of soliciting alternate supplier quotes for future projects, but agreed not to delay the current work.
The board concluded the open session by moving into executive session citing chapter 610.324 for the closed‑door portion of the meeting.
Reported by the district finance director: “Interest generated an additional $23,906.01 in revenue,” reflecting semiannual CD payments that staff said have been renewed for an additional year.
