At the Aug. 16 meeting the Town of Southwest Ranches council approved three operational items affecting town parks and code administration.
1) Invasive exotic removal: Council approved a purchase order with EDJ Service LLC for $138,121.84 to remove invasive exotic species at multiple town properties, including Country Estates Park and Rolling Oaks. Parks staff said last year’s pilot work allowed the town to target high‑need locations; funding for follow‑up maintenance is included in the current fiscal budget.
2) Playground surfacing: Council approved a separate purchase order with EDJ Service LLC for $42,972.60 to replenish playground safety surfacing and related materials at multiple town properties.
3) Unsafe structures adjudication: Council approved an interlocal agreement with Broward County to use the county’s unsafe structures board for adjudication of town building‑code and public nuisance matters. Staff noted this is a renewal/continuation of an existing mechanism the town has seldom used.
All three items were approved by motion and roll‑call votes. Parks staff and council members stressed the maintenance and aesthetic benefits of the invasive species work and the need to preserve park investments.
