Board approves amendment extending superintendent's contract to June 2027, adds vacation days

The Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a first amendment to the superintendent’s employment contract that extends the term through June 30, 2027.

The amendment, presented by President Goldstein, keeps the superintendent’s salary flat for the 2024–25 and 2025–26 school years and increases the number of vacation days available in the 2026–27 school year from 20 to 32. President Goldstein moved the measure and the motion was seconded; the board recorded aye votes from Directors Ananya Uweibo, Assad Lucas, Battistelli, Goldstein and Marsh Olsen.

Board members praised the superintendent’s responsiveness during emergencies. “I personally feel that Chris is underpaid, overworked,” President Goldstein said, adding that recent emergency work justified additional days off. Director Ananya Uweibo referenced the district’s response to the Thunder Vista fire, saying the superintendent and staff “jumped right into action.”

The motion is recorded as the first amendment to the superintendent’s contract dated 05/24/2023 and was moved and seconded during the meeting. The board voted unanimously to adopt the amendment.

The meeting record shows the board cited Colorado Revised Statute 24-6-402(4)(b) and (4)(f) when discussing the executive session held earlier in the meeting about the personnel matter; the board recessed to executive session before returning to take the public vote to adopt the contract amendment.

The board did not approve an immediate salary increase; the amendment instead extends the contract term and adjusts leave accrual in the later contract year. No additional implementation steps or effective dates beyond the stated contract term were included in the motion.
