The City Council approved a resolution authorizing condemnation of fee simple title for certain tracts along Division Street (State Highway 180) between Cooper Street and Collins Street to enable the Division Street TxDOT sidewalk and landscaping project.
Staff said the condemnation is necessary to secure right-of-way for sidewalks and landscaping tied to the TxDOT project. Two companion items—settlement for acquisition of 550 square feet at 101 West Division Street and payment of special commissioners' awards for a 1,358-square-foot acquisition at 107 West Division Street (condemnation case The State of Texas and the City of Arlington v. Thomas W. Campbell, cause no. 2025-002503-1)—were presented together. Two residents (Liam Crowley and Donald Turner) testified in support during public hearing, urging council approval on behalf of walkability and neighborhood connectivity.
Council moved to approve the items; motions were made, seconded and the council voted to approve the condemnation and related settlement/resolution items.
