Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission continues rezoning case for 1700 East Barton Road to May 7

The City of Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously (8-0) on March 19, 2025, to grant a date-specific continuance for zoning case PD24-25, which would rezone roughly 6.29 acres at 1700 East Barton Road from community commercial and office commercial to a planned development allowing limited medium-density residential (RM-12) uses, Chair Dr. Ignacio Nunez said.

Chair Dr. Ignacio Nunez introduced the item, saying the applicant requested a continuance to a date-specific hearing on May 7, 2025. The commission then heard no public questions or objections on the continuance request before a commissioner moved to advance the continuance to the May 7 meeting.

“I can make a motion to approve the continuance for zoning case PD24-25 1700 East Barton Road continued to 05/07/2025,” Commissioner Blake said, moving the continuance. Commissioner Carter seconded the motion. The vote was recorded as 8 in favor, none opposed.

The application presented in the meeting packet seeks to change zoning from community commercial and office commercial to a planned development to allow limited residential medium-density (RM-12) uses on approximately 6.29 acres. The chair noted the continuance was requested by the applicant; no further details about the applicant’s reasoning were stated on the record during this meeting.

During the session the commission also handled routine business: the minutes from the March 5, 2025 regular session were approved by an 8-0 vote after Chair Nunez asked if there were any corrections and none were offered. The chair noted there were no reports from boards, commissions, liaisons, or staff, and he listed the next meeting date as April 2 before adjourning the session.

The commission will take up PD24-25 at its date-specific hearing on May 7, 2025, when the applicant will have an opportunity to present and the public may comment according to the posted time limits.
