The Mount Clemens City Commission took a series of routine and policy actions at its April 5 meeting, including extending a local emergency declaration, approving a renewal contract for MedStar emergency medical services, and supporting local grant nominations.
Emergency declaration: City Manager Johnson explained the mayor’s March 31 declaration allows the commission to meet remotely under the Michigan Open Meetings Act; staff recommended and the commission approved a 90-day extension so the city can continue virtual meetings while COVID cases remain elevated.
MedStar contract: The commission approved a renewal contract with MedStar that staff said will continue emergency medical transport at no cost to the city. Chief Shipman said the new contract guarantees an average response time about one minute faster than previous agreements: “it has improved by 60 seconds,” he said.
Grants and local nominees: The commission nominated the Anton Arts Center as an applicant for a community-project grant to fund predevelopment work for an ArtSpace project and also supported a recreation-focused application from Advancing Macomb (a joint proposal with another city). Staff said Congressman Levin’s office indicated two local proposals would not compete to the detriment of either submission.
Other approvals: The commission also approved waiving outdoor patio permit fees for the 2021 season to help restaurants, adopted a local resolution recognizing the Mount Clemens Kiwanis Club for charitable-gaming-license purposes, approved purchases and payments of invoices and approved the consent agenda.
