Board advances two assessor-office job descriptions to finance committee

Melissa, a presenter for the assessoroffice, told the committee she was presenting two new job descriptions intended to improve workflow after a recent internal assessment following Deb Ritkes departure. "I'm here to present 2 new job descriptions for the assessor's office," Melissa said.

The positions named were a property tax coordinator and a field appraiser coordinator; both would report to the chief deputy and the supervisor of assessments, Melissa said. She said a consultantled review recommended adding the roles to streamline tasks and improve coordination with township assessors.

A committee member praised the office's recent review, describing the incoming changes as the start of a broader effort to rebuild the office"as of right now, we do not have a supervisor of assessments, but we hope to have 1 very shortly," the committee member said, characterizing the plan as building out a "command staff" to raise the office to a new baseline.

Mary, a committee member, added that the new coordinator positions would also coordinate with township assessors and help centralize assessment data coming into the county system: "these two positions... will also coordinate with our township assessors."

The tax committee had earlier provided a positive recommendation. Chair called for a motion to forward both job descriptions to finance; a motion by Joe, seconded by Harold, was approved by voice vote.
