Council approves two zoning rezonings clearing path for commercial projects on 82nd and near Indiana Avenue

Planning staff (Kristen Eger) described zone case 21‑61‑M, a request by HFA for Lubbock Commercial Buildings to rezone a currently vacant parcel south of 82nd Street and west of University Avenue from neighborhood commercial to auto urban commercial to accommodate an oil‑change facility. Staff said 87 property notices were sent and two responses in opposition were received; staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval.
Staff also summarized zone case 32‑67‑A, a request by Spindle Block Properties, LLC, to rezone property south of 114th Street and east of Indiana Avenue from neighborhood commercial to heavy commercial to allow office/warehouse uses; staff said 25 notices were sent and three responses in favor were received. Both items were presented with site plans, aerials and proposed elevations.
No members of the public spoke for or against the cases during the consolidated public hearing. The council closed the hearing and approved items 6.4 and 6.5; the actions passed unanimously, recorded as 7‑0.
