Pontiac council approves cloud migration for core municipal software

The Pontiac City Council on March 3 authorized the city to migrate its BS&A enterprise resource planning software to a cloud-hosted environment to improve redundancy, remote access and disaster recovery.
Deputy mayor and IT director (presenting) said the project will be implemented in three phases: project management and planning ($37,405, already budgeted for FY25/26), implementation and testing, then training of staff (training cost estimated at $75,005.25 budgeted in FY26/27). The presenter said the ongoing annual cloud fee has been budgeted and the vendor will back up data every five minutes.
Council members asked about security, whether payroll or procurement are tied into BS&A, who will manage the system, whether the city will pay a managed-service fee, and the contract cadence. The IT director said the cloud-hosted model will be managed by both BS&A’s hosting and city staff and that security should improve because the vendor and city team will both manage protections.
Council approved the resolution to proceed with the cloud migration (roll call: 7 yeas, no nays). The mayor noted the project does not require a budget amendment and that implementation planning will begin so staff can train and go live in the next budget cycle.
