Pontiac leaders, community groups mobilize after Carriage Circle water‑main emergency

A late‑night water main break at Carriage Circle (also referred to as Carriage Place Apartments) prompted a rapid evacuation and a multi‑agency community response, council members and the mayor reported.
Council President Adrienne Austin and Councilwoman Regina Campbell thanked first responders, city staff and community partners for moving residents to hotels and warming centers, arranging transportation, providing food and assisting with medication retrieval. The mayor said the building — jointly owned by the Housing Commission and Lighthouse with a property manager — was repaired quickly: the water main break was fixed, heat and electricity were restored, and tenants were able to reoccupy the building the next day.
Council praised the coordination among city departments, the Lighthouse, Pontiac Community Housing Organization and local churches. Council asked administration staff to follow up with a written report addressing building maintenance, accountability and any outstanding concerns.
