Summary
At a policy committee meeting, administrators reviewed four policies for second reading, said a generative-AI policy will be tabled for solicitor review, agreed to adopt solicitor-recommended firearm language that targets display/brandishing, and asked the solicitor to draft an agreement to clarify police engagement in schools.
The Pennridge School District policy committee reviewed four policies at second reading and signaled agreement with solicitor guidance on firearm language while tabling the district's generative‑AI policy for further work.
Administrators said they would keep language in Policy 218.1 focused on conduct that displays, brandishes or uses a firearm within a specified distance, consistent with solicitor Mike Miller's advice. "I think the solicitor was pretty clear in sharing the belief that the language within this part of the policy is for those who are displaying, brandishing, or using a firearm," Mr. Johnson said.
The committee heard no substantive edits to Policy 204 (attendance) or Policy 805.1 and did not recommend changes after a brief review. On Policy 805.12 the solicitor recommended the board consider entering additional written agreements with local police to clarify engagement in schools; administrators said the solicitor would help draft that agreement if the board checks the associated policy box.
Board members indicated consensus to "check that box" on the policy worksheets and to proceed with drafting any additional agreements after policy approval. Committee members stressed the drafting would occur after the policy is adopted rather than blocking approval on the draft agreement.
The committee concluded its session and noted the policy items will appear for board consideration on the district calendar. No formal roll-call votes were recorded in the transcript of the committee meeting; the discussion in the record reflects committee direction to staff to proceed with solicitor-drafted language and agreements.
