Sedona council keeps Historic Preservation Commission in place after year of activity

Commissioners outlined next steps including an expanded survey supported by grant funds and an upcoming RFP to update the historic inventory.
Public commenters with long ties to Sedona urged the council to retain the commission, citing economic and cultural benefits of heritage tourism and community identity. Several council members expressed support and the manager noted that council agreed previously to continue the commission through 2025 and reevaluate before renewing the museum contract later this fiscal year.
Staff said they will continue the historic survey update and return progress reports to council. The council left the commission in place and directed staff to proceed with the planned survey work.
