Daniel Alfonso took the oath of office to become the Town of Davie’s District 2 council member in a brief swearing-in ceremony.
Clerk Evelyn Rugg administered the oath, which pledged support for the Constitution of the United States, the constitution of the state of Florida and the charter of the Town of Davie. Alfonso repeated the oath and affirmed he was duly qualified to hold office.
Alfonso, introduced by the meeting moderator as the new District 2 council member, told attendees he was “somewhat speechless” and said he had worked “23 years in government on the other side of the table.” He added, “I will do my absolute best to continue working collaboratively with the council,” and said he looked forward to serving residents.
The ceremony concluded with an invitation from the moderator to join a reception for refreshments.
No formal votes or other council business were conducted during the swearing-in ceremony; the event was limited to the oath and brief introductory remarks.
