Dennis Marciori, chancellor and CEO of Palmer College, addressed the council and thanked staff for compiling a comprehensive packet on the proposed campus land-use plan amendment. "We think it's comprehensive," Marciori said, and offered to answer any questions from the council or the public.
The items considered included a proposal to amend the campus land-use plan for an area bounded by West 12th Street, Harrison Street, 6th Street and Pershing Avenue, a rezoning petition to convert multiple parcels to an institutional campus district, and requests to vacate portions of Palmer Drive and adjacent alleys to accommodate campus changes. No members of the public opposed those items at the hearings.
Councilors, including the community development chair, recommended the items move forward on the discussion agenda for additional consideration and briefing. The mayor thanked Palmer for continued investment in Davenport, saying the college "is an institution" that contributes to downtown activity and the local economy.
Next steps: council will consider these Palmer College items on the discussion agenda in a future meeting; no final rezoning or vacations were approved tonight.
