Superintendent Denise Bartlett walked the Catalina Foothills Unified School District governing board through the district’s draft process and timeline for its fiscal year 2026 maintenance and operations budget.
Bartlett said the district has already begun reconciliation work and fiscal‑year review. Key dates noted in her overview include a Jan. 28, 2025 study session on Arizona school finance and structure; reconciliation and development of straw budgets in March and April; nonrenewal notifications for one‑year professional staff contracts on March 22; and the first public presentation of the budget and salary/wage determinations on April 8. The board will hold additional contract rounds and stakeholder presentations in April–June and must approve the budget by July 1, with final submission to the Arizona Department of Education by July 15, Bartlett said.
Board members discussed the new timing rule that prohibits offering contracts before March 15, a change Bartlett said levels competition among districts that historically offered early contract commitments. "We prefer to let them know what they will be making and what their increase will be before they are expected to sign a contract," Bartlett said.
The budget calendar will guide future board meetings, hearings and stakeholder presentations through spring and early summer ahead of final adoption.
