Board approves ASBA bylaw updates and authorizes board designee to cast the district’s online vote

The governing board voted unanimously Dec. 10 to approve proposed amendments to the Arizona School Boards Association bylaws and to designate a district designee to cast the district’s single online vote.
Board members said the most substantive bylaw changes clarify the executive board’s authority and strengthen vetting of professionals who work with ASBA — changes offered in response to last year’s events involving the association’s executive director. “Most of the changes were to clarify what authority the executive board has and to properly vet professionals,” a board member said during discussion.
After discussion, a motion to approve the bylaw‑change proposal passed 5–0. The board then approved a second motion — also 5–0 — appointing Amy Sams, administrative assistant to the superintendent and board secretary, as the district’s designee to submit the board’s single online vote on the ASBA bylaws.
No additional public testimony or votes were recorded on related governance actions at the meeting.
The district’s designee will submit the board’s vote electronically in accordance with ASBA procedures.
