Commission directs staff to compile quarterly housing commission minutes and a clearer vacant-commercial-building report

A group of commissioners moved to receive quarterly reports that compile housing commission minutes and provide an expanded vacant commercial building report, citing gaps in the information the commission has been given.
Commissioner Menser (motion author) said the current report lacks critical details — including which properties have paid annual fees, how many properties are in foreclosure, which submitted required plans of action, and whether properties have been moved to the tax roll. ‘‘That report as it is is simply not enough information,’’ Menser said during the discussion.
Brian Tingley, joining the meeting remotely, said every property on the list had been sent the initial fee. Properties that did not pay were moved to the winter tax roll; he also explained that annual fees escalate and can reach up to $10,000. Tingley and staff agreed to work with BSNA and others to provide a more complete, quarterly report with the requested details.
Commissioners debated whether to split the motion (separate motions for housing minutes and vacant buildings) but ultimately voted to approve a combined motion to receive the quarterly reports. The commission asked that the housing commission minutes be posted and compiled in a central location for easier review.
