Commissioners also approved the introduction and first readings of two ordinances — an amendment to the water ordinance on cross connections and a dangerous-animal ordinance — and set July 18 for the second readings and potential adoption. The water-ordinance change responds to a state mandate and will focus on residential irrigation systems that require backflow preventers; the fee schedule and implementation details will return to the commission.
Near the meeting’s end a commissioner moved that the commission go into closed session to discuss collective bargaining; the motion was seconded and approved, the commission recessed briefly, and later a motion to adjourn passed.
What’s next: The commission expects to consider fee schedules and final ordinance language at its July 18 meeting; staff will also forward the social-district recommendation to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission and execute the Karnes lease.
