City Manager Johnson said the Oasis Social District created in April 2021 ran last summer with two restaurants participating and "we had absolutely no problems because of it," and staff recommended adding Gumbos, a recent downtown establishment, to the district. "The sheriff's department has reported no incidents," Johnson said.
Commissioners asked no substantive policy questions before voting. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote with all members present voting in favor.
Why it matters: The social-district program allows designated public areas downtown to host alcohol purchased from participating establishments, a measure city leaders said supported local restaurants and downtown events.
