Loretta Humble, who identified herself as a longtime Lake Kavanaugh resident, told commissioners she and her family have lived at the lake for decades, recounted building and adapting homes without modern services, and asked the county to restore a two‑direction gravel roadway on North Shore to ensure safety and emergency access rather than pursuing larger, more costly upgrades. ‘‘I am simply requesting a road that goes in 2 directions for safety and security,’’ Humble said.
An on‑line caller, Ed Johnson, said Lake Kavanaugh Road was gravel in 1980 and urged residents in remote areas to take some self‑help measures; his remarks offered historical perspective on local road conditions but did not request specific county funding during the Jan. 6 session.
Separately, a different public commenter praised the board’s recent process but criticized candidates for not addressing the public defender budget and urged the county to prioritize due process and public defender funding over building a larger law‑enforcement complex.
