Portland High esports team hailed as Central Region champions; coach seeks district support

"They went undefeated through that, and they won that tournament," Mr. Smart said, describing how the team advanced into national play. He said the program is currently 100% extracurricular; athletes compete after school and the program ties to CTE where possible.
Board members asked about logistics and whether esports could be incorporated into classes. Mr. Smart said participation is extracurricular now but expressed interest in future integration as a fourth-period athletic-type option; he also said the school is raising funds for higher-performance equipment and to support growing student interest.
The board applauded the students' success and encouraged the coach to seek district support where appropriate.
