Director: principals appreciate board visits; staff to draft compensation norms for January study session

Sumner County Schools' director gave a brief report at the Dec. 10 board meeting, saying he and a colleague have completed eight or nine rounds of principal evaluations and have met with about half the district’s principals. ‘‘They all really appreciate the support that they feel that they get from y’all,’’ the director said, praising board members for attending school events and visiting buildings.
Board members were reminded that this meeting was a voting session only and that the next study session is scheduled for January. A staff member said the administration—"Frankie and I"—would draft proposed language on compensation and on board norms and circulate it to members for review, asking board members to submit suggested wording by email so the items can be discussed in the January study session.
Several board members offered brief comments of appreciation for principals, custodial staff and school theatre performers during the meeting’s comment period. One board member praised the district’s use of AI tools for teacher support and urged attention to managing students’ social-media use in schools. The meeting closed with the chair thanking staff and members ahead of the holiday break.
