Sumner County board recognizes Liberty Creek High School cheerleaders as national champions

The Sumner County School Board opened its March 18 meeting by inviting the Liberty Creek High School senior cheerleaders to the front to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and to accept a formal recognition from the board.
Several board members praised the squadwhich staff said includes 35 athletes who cheer for football and basketballfor reaching consecutive regional, state and national titles. One board member noted the team's achievement of back-to-back Super Varsity Game Day national championships and told the students the county was proud of their work.
A student representing the cheerleaders described the effort behind the success: "We have basically counted 117 practices," the student said, noting that the squad sets smaller goals inside a larger season objective. Board members congratulated the athletes and said they would receive a commemorative coin.
The recognition occupied the opening portion of the agenda; the board then moved on to regular business.
