The board also approved the state-required teacher-bonus resolution that must be signed and uploaded by the district to make eligible teachers eligible for a one-time $2,000 payment from the state.
Dr. Langford told the board the bonus is a one-time payment that is taxed, that districts must submit qualifying teacher lists into the state’s ePlan system by June 1 for the payment to be processed, and that the state’s funding mechanism will not be accessible until July 1; payroll distribution would follow once the state transfers funds. “We need to pass the resolution tonight or call a special meeting; otherwise, we won’t meet the state’s upload deadline,” Dr. Langford said.
Board debate over the budget included proposed reorganizations of central office and newly created director positions totaling roughly $600,000 in new funding; a motion to freeze or remove those reorganizations failed. Multiple trustees emphasized teacher compensation; a late amendment to raise starting teacher pay by $500 failed in roll-call vote. The general-purpose budget later passed on roll call with one recorded No vote (Mr. King).
On the teacher-bonus resolution, the board voted to accept the state-directed bonus authorization. During that vote the record shows at least one opposition from a board member (Mr. Evans), but the resolution as submitted on BoardDocs carried and will be signed, scanned and uploaded by staff so the district can claim the funding and process payroll after state disbursement.
Next steps: staff will prepare the required ePlan upload by the state deadline and provide the board with a slide explaining which employees qualify under state rules. The district expects to receive state funds after July 1 and to run an extra payroll in late summer to distribute bonuses as soon as state processes are complete.
