Moorhead recognizes citizen for lifesaving action, swears in six police officers and hears Resource Connect presentation

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Moorhead City Council recognized Ashley Anderson with a Morehart award after she performed CPR at a neighborhood wading pool that helped an 11‑year‑old child recover. Lisa Bode, speaking for the Morehart selection committee, described the June 21 incident and the nomination submitted by Parks and Recreation Director Sean Brandenburg; Anderson accepted the honor and said she was grateful but humbled.
The council also held a public swearing-in and badge pinning for six police officers. Police Chief Helmick described recent progress in recruiting and training and introduced the officers who completed field training or the academy. Mayor Shelley Carlson administered the oath.
In a separate presentation, Raquel Aboa, engagement director at Resource Connect, described the nonprofit’s volunteer-based rideshare and vehicle-repair services, work-attire donations and bus-pass assistance. Aboa said Resource Connect has helped about 150 people to date and provided the group’s contact information and website for volunteers and donations.
The council thanked all the presenters and noted the city’s ongoing efforts in community safety and support services.
