Assistant City Attorney Mike Reetz summarized the process and timeline, telling the council the hearing and first reading are the initial steps; the second reading and consideration of the franchise agreement will occur at the council’s Aug. 20 meeting. Reetz said the city charter requires a franchise for companies that operate in the right-of-way.
There were no public speakers on the item after the hearing opened and closed; the council approved the first reading by voice vote.
