Council hears public hearing on Walker View 425 amendment; no speakers, item returned to committee

The Grand Rapids City Commission held a scheduled public hearing Oct. 8 on a proposed second amendment to a Public Act 425 conditional transfer agreement with the city of Walker for the Walker View development project. Economic development director Reniero described the amendment as an extension of the 2016 agreement (amended in 2018) to extend the term to 2042 and to add $290,400 in eligible infrastructure expenses.
"The agreement that this is regarding was put into place in 2016... ultimately for infrastructure improvements to [an] industrial park, totaling about $6,200,000... we are doing a second amendment to that 04/25 agreement to extend the term again and also add eligible expenses in the amount of $290,400 and extend the term to 2042," Reniero said.
Reniero said the amendment will be evaluated by the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority for eligible activities as well. The chair opened the public hearing but no members of the public addressed the commission on the Walker View item. The chair closed the hearing and said the item will be referred back to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration.
No formal action on the amendment was taken at the Oct. 8 meeting; the item will return to committee for additional review before any vote is scheduled.
