The Grand Rapids City Commission voted Oct. 8 to approve a settlement resolving a pending labor arbitration grievance involving employee Jenny Rood. The resolution, presented after executive session, called for a payment of $92,280, an additional $2,500 contribution to retirement/HSA, and an adjustment to recognize 25 months of credited service.
Commissioner Isasi, who presented the matter, said the settlement "was recommended and approved by the body in the amount of $92,280 plus an additional contribution of $2,500 to the retirement, the retirement HSA and an adjustment to recognize 25 months of credited service." The commission moved and supported the resolution and approved it by voice vote.
Mayor Bliss asked for questions from commissioners; none were raised during the public portion of the meeting. The chair then called for the vote and the motion carried by voice.
The commission took up the resolution after suspending the rules to consider an item added following executive session. No further details about the underlying grievance were discussed publicly at the meeting. The mayor closed the item after the vote.
