Oakdale authorizes start of 2026 street reconstruction, overlay program

The Oakdale City Council on Oct. 14 approved initiating the citys 2026 street reconstruction and overlay program and authorized the city administrator to execute a service contract with an engineering consultant to prepare feasibility reports and plans.

Brian Bachmeier, the city engineer, outlined the proposed reconstruction area as generally bounded east of Tanners Lake, west of Greenway Avenue, south of 7th Street and north of Hudson Boulevard and identified recurring pavement deterioration and frequent water-main breaks, notably on 2nd Street, Greenway Avenue and Grafton Avenue. He said the work would include street reconstruction, an overlay program on select collectors and a sidewalk project on Greenway from Hudson to 7th and that the city plans to use federal funding and state aid for parts of the work.

Council member (mover) asked to waive reading and adopt resolution "2025-93" to initiate City Project R2026-01 (2026 street reconstruction) and the R2026-02 overlay program; the council approved the resolution on a unanimous voice vote. The council also authorized the city administrator to contract with an engineering consultant to prepare feasibility reports and design documents ahead of bidding expected in early March.

Officials said this step begins the formal project timeline including neighborhood meetings, feasibility reporting, hearings and eventual bidding. The action does not itself award construction contracts or appropriate funds for construction; those steps will be considered later as part of the 2026 capital improvement program.
