Oakdale authorizes maintenance agreement for 4th Street bridge on Gold Line corridor; staff will correct clerical bridge number
Summary
The council authorized the mayor and city administrator to sign an operations and maintenance agreement for the reconstructed 4th Street bridge over Trunk Highway 694 (Gold Line BRT corridor). MnDOT retains ownership and major maintenance responsibilities; Oakdale will do minor maintenance. Staff noted and will correct a clerical discrepancy in the bridge identifying number.
Engineering staff asked the council to approve an operations and maintenance ownership agreement for the 4th Street bridge over Trunk Highway 694, reconstructed as part of the Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit corridor. The recommendation described a split of responsibilities: MnDOT will continue to own the bridge and be responsible for major maintenance and inspections, while the city will handle minor maintenance tasks such as snow removal, litter and graffiti cleanup and trail lighting/snow clearing related to the new trail on the bridge.
Brian Bachmeier, presenting for engineering, said the additional trail-related maintenance costs are expected to be minimal and recommended approval. The council moved to authorize the mayor and city administrator to sign the agreement. During discussion Mayor Zabel observed that two different bridge numbers appeared on the paperwork; staff confirmed the correct bridge number listed on the agreement and said the clerical discrepancy would be corrected after council action.
Council adopted the authorization by voice vote. Staff said they will finalize the document to reflect the correct bridge identifier and return any administrative corrections to the record.
