The Clerk summarized prior brainstorming and encouraged the commission to identify feasible short‑term activities. "I think the art exchange with the sister city... sounds like very feasible for us to do short term," a commission member said. Commissioners discussed working with College Place High School art classes and contacting Walla Walla University for additional student participation.
Staff reported that Mary Elizabeth applied for a $5,000 Wild Horse Foundation grant to support youth initiatives. "We got a grant for, $5,000, and there's a mural that's going up... $4,000 was allotted to that building, so there's 1000 dollars left," the Clerk said. The Clerk added expenditures must be itemized and any unused funds returned.
When asked about timing, the Clerk said the grant originally expired March 31 but staff filed for an extension; the deadline is now Aug. 31, giving the commission more time to develop a plan and spend the remaining funds. Commissioners agreed to reach out to contacts at College Place High School, Walla Walla University and the mayor to gauge interest and report back at the next meeting. No formal action or vote was taken on a project at this meeting.
