The Clay County Commission voted to approve an agribusiness grant agreement after staff and a state representative clarified the grant’s road scope and testing requirements.
Commission discussion focused on whether 456th Avenue should be included alongside 313th Street in the agreement’s project description. County staff and the state representative agreed to add 456 so that the description references work “located on 313th Street and 456th Avenue in McLean,” and to amend the testing requirement so the county submits test results to the state upon completion of work on South Dakota Highway 50.
The commission also confirmed that the $600,000 grant amount applies to the county-owned portions of the project (the 313th and 456th segments) and does not cap additional turning-lane funding. As one commissioner noted, “the full 600,000 is available regardless of what our decisions are about how we construct the road,” and staff clarified the turning-lane funding would be in addition to that amount.
After agreeing to the edits, a motion to approve signing the agribusiness agreement with the discussed changes was made and approved by voice vote.
The county attorney will incorporate the agreed language and send the final agreement for signatures.
