Resident warns township minutes misstate a public comment about proposed York Suburban intermediate school

A resident raised concerns that the township's written minutes misrepresented part of a public comment about the proposed York Suburban intermediate school, potentially changing the perceived meaning of the speaker's position.

"These minutes were approved as accurate unanimously by this board on January 8 at another meeting. They are not accurate," Audrey Hardy (3205 I) said, referencing the board minutes for 12/11/2025. Hardy recited a portion of a comment by Ryan White that she said the published synopsis condensed into wording that could be read as showing opposition to the school rather than skepticism about the board's reasons for delay.

The chair responded that minutes are a synopsis, not a verbatim stenographic record, and that the meeting video provides the full spoken record. "The only thing that's required is date, time, and place of meeting, names of members present, substance of all official actions and how each member voted, names of citizens who appeared officially and the subject of their testimony," the chair said.

Hardy urged the board to ensure public records "are accurate and truthful in regards to all statements addressed to the board even if they are not in alignment with the board's personal inclinations." The transcript shows the minutes were approved without further amendment at a later meeting, but Hardy asked the board to take public comments seriously and to verify that the minutes' synopses reflect speakers' intent.
