Chester elementary and academy highlight student programs, music and community service
Summary
Presenters reported on CES PBIS recognition, a multicultural week and garden project; Chester Academy updated the board on senior trip plans, extracurricular achievements and student volunteer service. The district's music department performed and described county-level participation and upcoming concerts.
At the meeting, CES and Chester Academy presenters summarized recent student programs, recognitions and community partnerships.
Miss Bosch reported that CES held a PBIS assembly on Feb. 27 where 54 students received 'winner circle' bracelets and multiple students and staff were recognized with golden awards; assemblies ended with a YMCA dance party. The CES Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is planning a multicultural evening to coincide with the April CES Art Show, and families will receive participation information via ParentSquare. Miss Bosch said the Amplify Science pilot has completed all grade levels and that survey feedback will guide next-step curricular choices. She also described community visits (ICU nurse Joel Montester led a hands-on 'germ detective' activity) and master-gardener support for a second-year pollinator garden project.
Chester Academy's report, delivered by Mr. Milondo, noted a senior-class trip to Florida with a mandatory family meeting Feb. 26; the school recognized competitive achievements (a third-place finish at an 'Oste of the Mind' event) and highlighted student-athlete success with wrestlers advancing to state competition. He reported 13 cell-phone infractions for the short month, celebrated second-quarter academic honorees and described student volunteer work supporting a Kiwanis fish fry and a local food pantry.
The music department — introduced by Milondo and presented by Deb Hussaini — said the district had students represented at all county levels and 28 students (grades 6–12) signed up for the county solo/ensemble festival. The high-school band will march in the Saint Patrick's Day parade (Chester's 50th time participating), and the group is preparing spring concerts and a Broadway trip. The board thanked the performers and presenters.
The meeting also included routine business (approval of minutes and a consent agenda) and a roundtable of brief updates from the superintendent and board members. No public commenters spoke during the public-comment periods.
