Sheriff's office recommends staged 3-way stop at Holland and Stanley roads over safety concerns

Chief Deputy Tommy Bradford told the Dade County Board of Commissioners on March 5 that he observed limited sightlines at the intersection of Holland Road and Stanley Road caused by an embankment and recent housing growth that has increased traffic volume. Bradford recommended installing a 3-way stop to reduce accidents.

Bradford presented photos taken from the intersection showing visibility issues and said the county previously constructed a logging access on county-owned property but had not yet removed stumps or completed grading. He recommended staging the installation: post temporary signs (barrels with stop signs) and public notice for two weeks, add stop-bars and painted lines, and begin citations only after a longer warning period to allow drivers to adjust.

Commissioners asked about moving the existing sign, permitting, and whether the county should obtain a written recommendation from the sheriff for the file. The chair noted the district commissioner should be comfortable with the change because that commissioner may receive many calls from constituents. Staff and the sheriff's office agreed to provide a written recommendation and use staged notification before full enforcement.

The board added the 3-way stop recommendation to the consent agenda for approval; no independent vote on the topic occurred outside the consent agenda process at this meeting.
