Residents press council to stop Pebble Creek Parkway expansion; council asks staff for non‑vehicular alternatives

College Station — Dozens of Pebble Creek residents packed City Hall on Sept. 25 to oppose a long‑standing thoroughfare designation that they say has come to threaten their neighborhood’s character and safety. After a staff presentation and more than three hours of public comment, the City Council signaled a consensus to keep the existing two‑lane cross‑section and directed staff to return with options that would avoid a full vehicular extension to the south, except for designs limited to emergency‑vehicle access or non‑vehicular connections.

Transportation planning administrator Jason Schubert told the council the parkway’s depiction on older planning maps had created the expectation of a four‑lane road but said that “I do not have a formal proposal or recommendation on this” and that the map colors did not, by themselves, create an immediate construction project.
