Tutti’s Chicken and Fish ownership approved by LaPorte County board; location to be set from escrow

The LaPorte County Alcoholic Beverage Board No.1 voted March 5 to approve the ownership portion of a liquor permit for Tutti’s Chicken and Fish, but delayed any decision about a physical location.
Michelle Traverse, with the State Excise Police and chair of Board No.1, told the board that state law allows a "location pending" permit to be held in escrow for up to five years. "So today what we are hearing is we're hearing, Tutti's Chicken and Fish, the ownership involved with it, we are not voting on the location," Traverse said, explaining the board would vote only on ownership and that the permit holder must return later to transfer a location.
Applicant Maxise Taywood, whom the board identified as the owner of Tutti's Chicken and Fish, described the business as "more sort of a bar." Taywood said she currently operates a restaurant in Hammond and recently ran a bar in Crown Point for about three years; she told the board she had no violations at the Crown Point location. She said the planned hours for the Michigan City/Trail Creek site would roughly be 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and that the venue would be 21-and-older when operating as a bar.
Board members asked about entertainment and operations. Taywood said she has run pool tournaments at prior locations and expects music (either a jukebox or piped-in audio). She also confirmed the venue would be non-smoking.
After member discussion, a motion to approve the ownership portion of the permit was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The board instructed Taywood to file an escrow request once she secures a location, to post the required orange notice at the proposed site and to return to the board for a formal transfer of location when ready. Board members noted meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m.
The ownership approval does not authorize a specific address or operations at any site; the permit must be transferred and the location approved at a later hearing before on-site sales may begin.
