Encinitas Youth Commission reviews work plan and approves April 7 meeting date

The Encinitas Youth Commission reviewed progress on its fiscal year 2025–26 work plan and approved a change to the regular April meeting date at a session on March 4.
Chair Eric Kelly opened the work-plan review by saying the commission had "completed about 60% of the work plan with the remaining 40% in the final stages of completion," thanking commissioners for their collaboration. Commissioners then reported on subcommittee projects and recent events: an AdventureLab partnership with the Historical Society, a successful art social and techie tutors volunteer event, Moonlight Beach habitat and invasive-plant work, and planned outreach such as the ocean-safety booth and Arbor Day tree-planting.
Commissioners discussed scheduling speakers for future meetings; staff asked commissioners to provide dates so staff can arrange a city council member or other guests. Director Knopf thanked commissioners and called the art social and techie tutors events "fantastic." Manager Goodsell provided department updates and program promotions, noting registration opened for spring and summer programs, Parents' Night Out dates, Friday Finale after-school programming, a 20% Pacific View Art Center referral discount (email prca@Encinitasca.gov), a spring egg hunt on April 4 at Encinitas Community Park, Arbor Day (April 18) and Art Night (April 18), and volunteer sign-ups through staff contact Elle.
On calendar business, Chair Kelly moved to change the regular April meeting from the previously posted date to Tuesday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m.; Commissioner Charles seconded the motion. Commissioners recorded 'Aye' and staff confirmed "The April 1 regular meeting has been changed to April 7 at 4:30PM" and the room will be determined based on availability (likely the Poinsettia Room). Earlier in the meeting the commission also moved to approve the Feb. 4 minutes and recorded the minutes as approved.
The commission discussed a potential fall 2026 quarter work plan to ease transitions for incoming commissioners and was advised to file a brief agenda report using the staff template if they wish to add it to a future meeting agenda. The meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
