Board accepts resignation of public health planner Avi Suqua and approves refilling position funded by state grant

Freeborn County on March 3 accepted the resignation of Avi Suqua, the county’s public health planner, effective March 27, 2026. Avi addressed the board, saying the move is to pursue supervisory experience elsewhere and that they have greatly valued working in Freeborn County and participating in county public health efforts.
Following the resignation, the board approved a resolution to refill the public health planner position. Administration said the position is fully funded by the Foundational Public Health Responsibilities grant from the Minnesota Department of Health and noted prior budget and hiring discussions. Commissioners asked whether an exit interview or additional information about reasons for departure would be available; Avi said the decision is for personal and career reasons and expressed appreciation for the role.
The board voted to accept the resignation and to authorize posting/appointing the funded position; commissioners wished Avi well and thanked them for their work on the county’s CHIP process and other public health responsibilities.
