Board finalizes 2025–26 calendar, previews 2026–27 preliminary calendar

The Catalina Foothills Unified School District governing board voted 4–0 Oct. 22 to approve the district’s final 2025–26 school calendar, following a presentation by Mindy Westover.
Westover outlined key dates: new teachers report July 23 and returning teachers July 29; the first day of school for elementary students is Monday, Aug. 4; high school will begin at 8:35 a.m. and use a rotating schedule; the last student day is Wednesday, May 20 (half day) and the last staff contract day is Thursday, May 21. The calendar also sets a full week for fall break Oct. 6–10, schedules K–12 parent‑teacher conferences midweek during that week, and provides for elementary early releases and middle school late starts during the first week of school.
Trustees discussed tradeoffs including fall‑break timing, potential effects on absenteeism around parent‑teacher conferences, and the balance of semester days for the 2026–27 draft. Westover presented a first reading of the preliminary 2026–27 calendar, which would begin for students Monday, Aug. 10 and split semesters 85/95 days; that draft will return for further consideration at a future meeting.
A board member moved to approve the 2025–26 calendar and the motion carried 4–0.
