At the start of the business portion of the meeting the board moved and seconded approval of consent agenda items 5.1–5.7. A committee member (speaker 2) read the motion that included minutes, expense vouchers, field trips, fundraising requests, personnel items, gifts and donations, and a school facilities division award for weatherization work at Manzanita Elementary totaling $496,057 to Core Construction, Swayne Associates and Arcadis. President Jackson called the vote and the motion carried 5–0.
Earlier in the consent discussion Dr. Denise Bartlett described a temporary hire for a security specialist who is consulting from Tucson Unified School District. Bartlett said the specialist “is reviewing all of our operation plans, and he is...going to be tasked with calling it down into a usable kind of flip chart type book for every school,” and will train administrators on new Arizona Department of Education emergency-operation-plan requirements.
Board members praised the facilities award and the district’s use of grants to fund roofing, weatherization and maintenance projects without tapping local capital funds.
