"We would like to continue this, and we would very much appreciate if the commission would approve this," he said.
The extension was offered as an administrative measure after the city experienced several recent cases among staff and contractors. Johnson explained the city had previously let the policy lapse in June but reintroduced it after the uptick in cases.
Mayor Laura Cropp and commissioners called the roll and approved the extension. City officials clarified the measure applies to employees only and does not extend paid leave to contractors.
The action follows broader pandemic management steps discussed earlier in the meeting: Johnson said Macomb County’s COVID rate was growing and the city had resumed masking at city facilities after the staff cases. The commission did not set a later review date during the public record of the meeting.
