Mount Clemens searches for fire inspector after no internal applicants; city considers contract or part-time option

Commissioners asked for an update on hiring a fire inspector during the city manager's report. City Manager Mister Johnson said that when the position was posted, no firefighters applied from inside the department. The fire chief solicited a proposal from SafeBuilt to provide inspection services but the proposal was considered too expensive. Johnson said staff are now considering bringing someone in from outside on a part-time or contractual basis.
"When we actually posted the position, none of the firefighters applied for it," Johnson said. "So we went for the next phase: the fire chief contacted SafeBuilt and got a proposal... he thought the proposal was too expensive, and he's looking at a third option, to bring somebody in from outside on a part time basis, or contractual basis."
No hiring decision was made; the commission was informed that staff will continue to explore options and report back.
